Singapore Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines customers will be able to enjoy seamless travel to more destinations as a result of an expanded codeshare agreement between the Star Alliance partners.
Under the agreement, codesharing has been expanded with immediate effect to Ethiopian Airlines-operated flights between Singapore and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, via Bangkok, and flights between Addis Ababa and Pointe Noire in Congo, Accra in Ghana, Entebbe in Uganda, and Kigali in Rwanda.
Singapore Airlines also plans to codeshare on Ethiopian Airlines-operated flights in the coming months from Addis Ababa to Mombasa and Nairobi in Kenya and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
On a reciprocal basis, Ethiopian Airlines plans to codeshare on Singapore Airlines-operated flights beyond Singapore to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in Australia.
The upcoming codeshare on Ethiopian Airlines’ intra-Africa flights to the three African cities and Singapore Airlines’ flights to Australia is subject to regulatory approvals.
The airlines have been codesharing since November 2011 on flights between Addis Ababa and Dubai, and between Singapore and Dubai. The agreement was expanded in October 2012 to include flights between Addis Ababa and New Delhi, and between Singapore and New Delhi. Both airlines also expanded codesharing on flights between Addis Ababa and Bangkok, and between Singapore and Bangkok in July this year.
