Oromia Farmers Association Recognizes the Support of Ethiopian March 16, 2017

Meki Batu Farmers Association, under Oromia Cooperative and Promotion Agency, has applauded the support of Ethiopian Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam for his tremendous support and commitment in creating business opportunities for farmers association in Oromia region.

Representing a total of 8,300 farmers in 150 unions; Board Chairman of the union, high officials from the Oromia cooperatives and management of the union has handed over the award; reiterating their appreciation for his continued support in strengthening their capability and facilitating better market opportunities.

Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, remarked: “We are glad with the progress and promising achievements in the business partnership Ethiopian has established with Oromia Farmers Association. We have been supporting the union with technical advice, market development, production quality, process improvement, as well as sourcing of equipment to enhance productivity. Moreover, this business set up has enabled us to serve our customers with fresh and organic food onboard our flight. Way forward, we shall synergize with the farmers’ association in fostering market integration while ensuring delivery of quality, export oriented products.

Currently, Meki Batu Farmers Union supplies our Inflight Catering Center with fresh fruits and vegetables direct from their farm, while Lume Adama Farmers Co-operatives union is supplying wheat flour for Ethiopian Catering. Similar agreements and discussions with other co-operatives are also underway to enable us increase our local content and create more jobs in our homeland.”

Ethiopian Catering currently provides in-flight catering services for more than 240 Ethiopian daily departing flights, VIP and Charter flights, which often shuttle to and from Addis Ababa hub, as well as to Ethiopian customer airlines flying to Addis Ababa.
