Ethiopian to Launch New Services to Maputo - 23 November, 2010

Ethiopian Airlines is pleased to announce that effective December 02, 2010 it will launch new flight services to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. Travelers from all over the world now will have direct access to the one of the most dynamic countries in the world via Ethiopian’s strategic hub in Addis Ababa.

Mozambique is blessed with natural resources like coal, natural gas, aluminum and gold. Moreover, Mozambique’s beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world, and the country is famous for its seafood. Mozambique has a thriving tourism sector, and one of the longest coastlines in Africa.

Ethiopian will operate three weekly flights to Maputo on modern Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

In a joint meeting held on 05 November 2010, Ethiopian Airlines and Air Mozambique signed an agreement to code share the Addis Ababa Maputo route on a “Free Sell” basis. All Ethiopian flights operating to Maputo will be code shared with Air Mozambique with successful completion of system compatibility tests. Furthermore, both carriers have also agreed to enhance their code share cooperation considering as many viable beyond code share points as possible at a later stage.

With the new services, Ethiopian will offer seamless connection to passengers traveling between Maputo and Europe, the Far East and the US, as well as to Ethiopian extended network in Africa. The new service to Maputo becomes Ethiopian’s 38th destination in Africa and 59th worldwide.
