Ethiopian Takes Delivery of Second 737-800 - 15 September, 2009

Ethiopian Airlines has added into its fleet one CFM56-7B27 powered 737-800 from CIT Aerospace. ET-ANB with flight number ET-9201 ferried from London and arrived at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on September 13, 2009 at 08:10 pm.

The addition of 737-800 will boost Ethiopian’s current capacity requirements especially in view of its increasing number of passengers and expanding operation. This aircraft has a capacity for 16 passengers in Business Class and 138 passengers in the Economy Class and will be operated on the Africa and Middle East routes, including the newly announced Mombasa route, scheduled to receive daily flights from Addis Ababa effective 25 October 2009.

Ethiopian is one of the fastest growing airlines in the industry. In order to meet the required level of fleet size, Ethiopian has 35 new airplanes on order direct from the manufacturers, including the recent orders of five 777-200LRs and twelve A350-900s. Ethiopian has also on order for ten Boeing 787s and eight Bombardier aircraft.

Currently, Ethiopian operates 35 aircraft, comprising of ten 767-300ERs, eight 757-200s, two 757-260Fs, two 747Fs, two MD-11Fs, five 737-700s, two 737-800s and five Fokker 50 aircraft.
