Ethiopian Airlines has reached an agreement with Lufthansa- to extend its code share partnership between Addis Ababa and Frankfurt to several points in Africa, the US, and Europe. The new program has taken effect November 15th, 2008. As a result of this agreement, Lufthansa will benefit from the expansion of its services between Frankfurt and destinations in Eastern Africa.

Under this additional partnership agreement, Ethiopian Airlines will participate as a Marketing Carrier on Lufthansa flights to Amsterdam, Geneva, Stockholm, San Francisco and Los Angeles, while Lufthansa will participate on Ethiopian Airlines’ Nairobi, Entebbe, Kigali, Kilimanjaro Dar-es-Salaam and Zanzibar flights as a Marketing Carrier. Ethiopian has been offering uninterrupted flight services from its home base, Addis Ababa, to Frankfurt since June 21, 1958. The new code share agreement will further strengthen Ethiopian's position in European and US markets through the extensive network of Lufthansa while it creates additional possibilities for Lufthansa to reach Eastern African markets.

Ethiopian has been operating codeshare flights with Lufthansa since April 04, 2008. These flights are operating on the Addis Ababa-Frankfurt route. Ethiopian’s ShebaMiles members have been able to earn/use their award miles on the international route network of Lufthansa since October 28, 2007.
