Ethiopian Receives the Third Boeing 777–200LR - 28 January, 2011

Ethiopian Airlines has taken another leap forward by receiving its third brand new 777–200LR on Friday, January 28, 2011. The 3rd 777-200LR arrived at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport this morning at 0830 LT, carrying passengers from Seattle and Washington.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to substantially increase its network worldwide which will be supported by technological and environmental advanced fleet. This move will, no doubt, enable Ethiopian to provide competitive and enhanced products and services to its customers.

Ethiopian Airlines’ 777–200LR is the longest range commercial aircraft in the world, currently operating non–stop from Washington to Addis Ababa. The airline would take delivery of two more 777-200LR before the end of 2011.

For the second time in the 777-200LR delivery flight, Ethiopian Airlines, Boeing and Seattle Anesthesia Outreach (SAO) partnered to deliver a shipment of medical equipment to Black Lion Hospital, Ethiopia’s largest hospital. Approximately 2,700 pounds (1.2 metric tons) of medical supplies were loaded into the cargo hold of the 3rd new Boeing 777-200LR.

Ethiopian currently operates a total fleet of 45 aircraft. In addition, the airline has 34 new airplanes on order direct from the manufacturers, including the two 777–200LRs and twelve A350–900, ten 787s and ten 737–800 Jets.
