Ethiopian Hosts Workshop to Facilitate Service at Liege Airport - 01 June, 2009

Ethiopian Airlines hosted a workshop in collaboration with Liege Airport on Saturday 30 May 2009 at the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel. The workshop aimed at providing information and facilitating the service at Liege Airport for the buyers and sellers of Ethiopian flower industry.

The workshop brought together flower exporters, growers, producers, stakeholders and logistic service providers involved with Ethiopian flower exports. During the workshop, Liege Airport officials gave a presentation on the overall process and procedure at Liege Airport.

Ethiopian Airlines established its cargo hub in Liege in June 2008 and has been providing dedicated services ensuring the reliable delivery of cargo to various destinations in Europe.

Recently Ethiopian built a state-of-the-art cargo terminal in Addis Ababa with modern facilities and the capacity to handle 350,000 tonnes of cargo per annum. Since the opening of the terminal, Ethiopian Cargo has undergone a major transformation to tap into the growing worldwide cargo traffic as well as implement Ethiopian’s cargo development plan. In line with this, Ethiopian has been increasing its cargo fleet and destinations.

Ethiopian cargo currently operates five dedicated cargo aircraft (two Boeing 757s, two Boeing 747s and one McDonnell Douglas MD-11) in addition to the utilization of the belly space of its passenger fleet of Boeing 767 and 757 aircraft. A second MD-11 is expected to join the Ethiopian cargo fleet in August 2009.

Ethiopian Airlines is the only African airline with dedicated cargo services stretching from Africa to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
