Group Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam was appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines in January 2011. He began his career at Ethiopian in 1985 as Transportation Agent and has held a number of senior leadership positions in different divisions in the Airline including; Ethiopian Cargo, Area Offices and Sales & Marketing.
Mr. Tewolde also serves as a member of the High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport with United Nations, Chief Executive Board member of Star Alliance, Board member of International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airlink Advisory Council. Additionally, he is an Executive Committee member of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), a member of Board of Directors of Africa Travel Association (ATA) and Board of Directors of Ethiopian Tourism Organization (ETO).
In his role as CEO, Mr. Tewolde has been a multi award winner including ‘African CEO of the Year’, ‘Best African Business Leader’, ‘The Airline Strategy Award for Regional Leadership’ and ‘The Most Gender Focused CEO Award’.
He earned his B.A. Degree in Economics from the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Open University in the United Kingdom. He has received Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa from Addis Ababa University on 13 July 2019.
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Retta Melaku joined Ethiopian in 1994 as a Junior Aircraft Technician after graduating from Ethiopian Aviation Academy. He has been serving in various managerial positions including Manager Customer Support, Manager Technical Coordination, Manager Technical Coordination and HR Services, Director Component Maintenance, Director Engine Maintenance, Director MRO Sales and Marketing and Managing Director Ethiopian MRO Services.
He is a graduate of Ethiopian Aviation Academy in Avionics Maintenance; holds Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Open University of London (UK) and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Addis Ababa University.
Currently he is serving Ethiopian as Chief Operating Officer since April 1, 2021.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Meseret joined Ethiopian as Senior Accountant in the Finance Division in 1986. He has been serving the airline in various managerial streams including Supervisor at Disbursement, Supervisor at General Accounting, Manager General Accounting, Director Financial Accounting, Director Management Accounting, Vice President Finance and as Acting Chief Financial Officer. Currently, he is serving as Chief Financial Officer as of October 2017.
He has also served as Director Finance and Strategic Planning for ASKY Airlines. He holds a BA Degree in Accounting from Asmara University and Master of Business Administration from London Open University.
A/ Chief Commercial Officer
Mr. Esayas joined Ethiopian in July 1991 as Transit Agent in Marketing Division. He has been serving in various managerial positions including Manager Space Control & Yield Country Manager Greece, Nigeria and Germany.
In November 2010, Mr. Esayas was also appointed as Vice President of Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics to head all the cargo operation. In January 2012, he was appointed as SVP Global Sales. In October 2013, he was appointed as Managing Director Ethiopian International Services. Currently, he is serving Ethiopian as A/ Chief Commercial Officer. He holds BSc. Degree in Mathematics from Addis Ababa University. He also earned Degree of Master of Business Administration from UK Open University.
A/Group Chief Information Officer
Mr. Getinet Tadesse Joined Ethiopian as a Jr. Programmer on January 18, 2000. He has served Ethiopian as Manager Systems & Operation, Dir. Operation & Support, Dir Corporate Systems & Head Group IT Services Operation. He is serving as acting group chief information officer since August 01, 2020.
He is a Graduate of BSC Degree in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University & MBA from Open University (UK).
MD Ethiopian Cargo Services
Mr. Fitsum Abady began his career with Ethiopian in 1995 as Transportation Agent and has held a number of leadership positions in a number of divisions in the Airline including; Ethiopian Cargo, Area Offices and Sales and Marketing.
Currently, he is serving Ethiopian as Managing Director Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services since January 01, 2014.
He graduated from Addis Ababa University with a BSC Degree in Biology. He earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Indian ITM University.
A/ MD Ethiopian International Services
Mr. Lemma joined Ethiopian on September 06, 1999 as Marketing Agent. He has been serving in various managerial positions including Area Manager Burkina Faso, Malaysia and France. In December 2017, Mr. Lemma was appointed as Director Global Call Center.
Currently, he is serving Ethiopian as A/Managing Director Ethiopian International Services since September 01, 2019.
He holds BSC Degree in Civil Engineering from Addis Ababa University, Faculty of Technology and MSC in Geotechnical Engineering from Addis Ababa University, Faculty of Technology.
Mrs. Rahel Assefa joined Ethiopian Airlines in 1988 as a college trainee in the Sales Department after graduating from the Addis Ababa University in Management & Public Administration.
She worked in various Managerial positions within the Airline such as Sales, Commercial Planning, Revenue Management, as Regional Representative (U.K) and she is currently serving Ethiopian as Vice President Marketing the position she is holding since October 2013.
In February 2015, she was named among the Worlds’ 30 Most Compelling Women in Travel by the U.S based Premier Travel Magazine.
VP Corporate HRM
Mr. Wasihun Asres joined the Aviation industry with Ethiopian Airlines Group on September 7, 2007 as Manager Industrial Relations and succeeded up the ladder and served the airlines in various managerial positions including Head Industrial Relations, Head of the Office of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Director Group CEO Office and Corporate Communications, Director of the Commercial & Ground Services Training in the Aviation Academy before assigned by the Airlines in Central Africa. Since August 1, 2018 to December 2019, he served as the CEO of Tchadia Airlines, the newly established flag carrier of the Republic of Chad which went operational since October 1, 2018.
Currently, he serves as the Group Vice President for the HRM of the Airline Group. He was serving as the Board Chairman of the Credit Association of the Airlines and Board member of the Addis International Bank in Addis Ababa. He was the founder and the first GM of the Ethiopian Airlines Foundation, the charity organization.
Mr. Wasihun has also extensive experience in other public and chartered organizations making up for a total of 20 years plus worth of experience. He has served as the Director of Commercial Arbitration Center & Legal Advisor to the Secretary General of the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and served as an Assistant Judge, Judge and Execution Director in the Municipality court of Addis Ababa and the Federal First Instance Court respectively. He was also a seasoned instructor of business law at Addis Ababa University College of Commerce and other Private University Colleagues in Ethiopia.
Mr. Wasihun holds an LL.B. Degree from Addis Ababa University in year 2000, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and an Executive Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Open University of the United Kingdom (UK). He has Diploma in Bookkeeping & Accounting and certificates and course credentials in Business Management, Air Transport Management, Negotiation Skills.
He is married and a father of two daughters.
MD Ethiopian Aviation Academy
Mr. Mesay Shiferaw joined Ethiopian on April 10, 1995 as Transportation Agent and served the Airline in various positions including Customer Relations Officer, Supervisor Departure Control, Manager Airport Services Nairobi, Manager Airport Services Washington, Manager Ground Handling & Procedures, Director Recruitment & Placement, Director HR Development, Area Manager Japan, Head Group CEO Office & Corporate Communications, VP HRM and
He is currently serving as Managing Director Ethiopian Aviation Academy as of February 2021.
He holds BSC in Physics and BA Degree in Economics from A.A.U.
A/VP Internal Audit and Corporate QMS, SMS & EMS Compliance
Mr. Mengistu Bezie joined Ethiopian in 1995 as a college trainee Auditor and has been assigned as Internal Auditor in Internal Audit Division. He worked and progressed through the ladder of managerial and director positions within Internal Audit and Finance.
He has also served as Manager HR & Finance at ET’s sister Company; Tchadia Airlines and Director Finance & Strategic Planning at Ceiba Intercontinental Airlines for one and a half years.
Currently, he is serving Ethiopian as A/Vice President Internal Audit, QMS, SMS, Compliance & Business Sustainability since 23 of July 2020.
He earned his B.A. and BSc Degrees in Accounting and Information Systems from Addis Ababa University and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate from the Institute of Internal Auditors, USA
Mr. Michael Yared joined Ethiopian as Jr. Customer Service Agent in ADD HUB Division in 1996. He has been serving the airline in various managerial streams including Sup. Passenger Services, Manager Cargo Sales and Cargo Traffic, Station Manager Dubai, Area Manager Ghana, and Area Manager UK and Ireland.
Currently, he is serving as VP Customer Service as of February 2018.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the highly acclaimed Australian Institute of Business.
VP Flight Operations
Capt. Yohannes joined Ethiopian as a pilot after he has graduated from Ethiopian Aviation Academy in 1984. He has been serving in various positions including Chief Pilot on 767/757 in 2004, Manager Training and Standard in 2005, Director Flying and Training in 2007 and Air Crew Program Manager in 2010. Currently he is serving as VP Flight Operations since May 2015.
He is holder of a Diploma from Pilot Training School, Diploma from Addis Ababa University and 2nd year complete in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University.
VP Strategic Planning and Alliances
Mr. Busera joined Ethiopian in 1985 as a Space Control Agent and progressed through the ladder and has held a number of senior leadership positions including Director of Marketing and Sales Operations, Area Offices and Vice President of Commercial.
In September 2009, Mr. Busera was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of ASKY Airlines, Ethiopian second hub in Lome’ (Togo). In September 2013, he was assigned as Chief Commercial Officer. In March 2019, he was assigned as VP Strategic Planning and Alliances, the position he currently holds.
He graduated from Addis Ababa University with a B.A. Degree in Economics.
VP Legal Counsel & Corporate Secretariat
Mr. Genanaw began his career with Ethiopian in 2008 as Assistant General Counsel position and progressed through the ladder to become VP Legal Counsel & Corporate Secretariat in September 2014.
He graduated from Addis Ababa University with a Bachelor of Laws. He earned his Master of Laws from Peking University.
A/ CEO of Ethiopian Airports
Mr. Eskinder Alemu joined Ethiopian on 14 October 1992 as a Marketing Clerk in the Marketing Division and progressed through the ladder and has held a number of leadership positions including Area Manager Domestic Ethiopia, Area Manager Mozambique, Area Manager Congo Brazzaville, Manager Customer Relations, Director Ground Operations, A/VP Customer Services, MD Ground Services, Commercial Director Malawi Airlines and Head Group CEO Office. Currently, he is serving as A/CEO Ethiopian Airports.
Mr. Eskinder holds BSC Degree in Physics from Addis Ababa University and Diploma from Ethiopian Airlines School of Marketing and Finance. He is married and a father of two daughters.
A/Managing Director Ethiopian MRO
Mr. Kidus Melkamu joined Ethiopian on December 1, 2005 as Junior A/C Technician and he has served the Airline in different capacities including, A/C Technician, Sr. A/C Technician I, Lead A/C Technician, Mgr. Turboprop & Light A/C, Dir. Line Maintenance and Dir. Maintenance & Engineering-ASKY Airlines.
He is currently working as Acting Managing Director ET-MRO Services as of April 1, 2021.
He is a graduate from Aviation Maintenance Technicians School of Ethiopian Aviation Academy and he is also a graduate of MBA from The Open University of UK.
A/MD Ethiopian Ground Services
Mr. Tadele Barega joined Ethiopian on July 03,1995 as a Transportation Agent and served the Airline in various positions including Supervisor Domestic Services, Supervisor Arrival & Transfer, Manager Airport Services Guangzhou, Manager Arrival & Transfer, Manager Operations Support, A/Managing Director Ethiopian Ground Services, Area Manager Cote d’Ivoire ,Area Manager Greece & Cyprus.
He is currently serving as A/Managing Director Ethiopian Ground Services as of December 2020.
He holds a Diploma in Marketing Management from Addis Ababa University College of Commerce.
